ABOUT US

Studio Querencia is a young Bombay based design house, founded in 2017.

Querencia is a Spanish word for that part of the bull ring where the bull may stake out to feel strong and safe, in a bullfight. While it is difficult to extract the essence of the word in translation, a derived parallel connotation, simply, means a place where one draws their strength from and where one feels their most authentic self. In short, a space where one feels the most at home and at ease. That, in a nutshell, is what the Studio attempts to achieve. The strive is always to create spaces where one draws their strength of character from and where one feels like themselves, unembellished with the requirements of the outside world.

While the practice has executed both commercial and residential projects, the specialty of the studio is residential interiors, both high end and budgeted.

THE TEAM

Kiraan Ajay Aggarwal

Founder and Principal Architect

Born and raised in Bombay, Kiraan studied architecture at the esteemed Kamala Raheja Vidyanidhi Institute for Architecture. Having had the privilege of being mentored by renowned names like Vandana Ranjit Sinh, Anand Patel and Rajiv Saini, Kiraan has had the privilege of working and learning on some very prestigious projects. She envisions the studio as an experimental practice that amalgamates the learnings from the mentors while attempting to remain true to the name.

Priyanka Shimpi

Priyanka graduated from Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Architecture, Navi Mumbai in 2019 and joined the Querencia family soon after. She enjoys the process of designing with a conceptual base, then exploring multiple possibilities which create and emphasize the habitable space. Apart from architecture, she likes to travel and capture moments using photography as her tool.

Mugdha Patil

Mugdha, an undergraduate student from KRVIA, joined the Studio for her internship in 2019. She believes that spaces speak for their inhabitants and that architecture should make them more harmonious. She likes flora a little too much and strives between capturing the moments and living them fully.
